Configuration Management Plan Section 11 - Model Text
11. SOFTWARE SPECIFIC CONFIGURATION
MANAGEMENT
11.1 General.
The task of controlling software is recognized as significant
in a project that has widespread computer applications.
11.2 Types of software.
Software can be defines as one of the following types:
-
Safety critical;
-
Airborne;
-
Ground support system;
-
Test, production, evaluation, and test;
-
Software/System development environment;
-
Application software;
-
Etc.
11.3 Software development.
Because of the special requirement to maintain rigorous configuration
control over the development of software (that is, during the 'Developmental
Configuration' period) prior to the availability for official release.
Software configuration management shall be operated under
the directions defined in the CSCI 'Software Development Plan'.
To Be continued
11.4 Control of software.
Approval of changes (Class I) to the agreed and established
Software Functional, Allocated and Product Baselines will be performed
through the Change process defined in this Configuration Management Plan.
Supplied software and firmware will be controlled during
the 'Engineering and Manufacturing' phase by the relevant design authority
using the change process defined in this document
During the development life cycle phases of software,
changes to the suppliers developmental configuration will be processed
in accordance with the methods and procedures described in the 'Software
Configuration Management plan' which shall be consistent with this CMP.
A Functional baseline (FB) is a part of the 'Development
Component Baseline' (DCB). Formally released software will be identified
within the 'Baseline Build Standard' for production standard and within
the Target Standard.
Within the drawing set, software (including firmware)
for supplier items a part number will be identified within the component
part number. Software releases will be identified to CSCI level within
the drawing set, for each prototype and production aircraft.
11.5 Review procedures.
-
11.5.1 Software configuration control board.
-
The Software Configuration Control Board will be convened
on a regular and periodic basis at the levels of Software Configuration
Management identified below:
-
Software Management Group;
-
Design responsible supplier;
-
Areas affected be the proposed change (if applicable).
-
The Software Configuration Control Review meeting will be
convened to: prepare and review all inputs to the Software Configuration
Management Status Report; review, as necessary, all Problem/change Reports
(PCR) received since the previous meeting; resolve and progress any software
problem areas relating to Software Configuration Control; progress the
status of outstanding queries and problems; progress the status of corrective
actions to problems and queries
-
11.5.2 Software configuration management board.
-
The purpose of the Software Configuration Management Board
will be to ensure that all Problem/change Reports (PCRs) submitted to Software
Configuration Control are of sufficient quality to satisfy project standards.
-
A Software change can only be cleared on the unanimous approval
of the Software Configuration Management Board.
-
11.6 Storage, handling, and release of project media.
-
A software library shall be established to furnish the necessary
facilities for the controlled, secure storage, handling and release of
all project media.
-
The functions are:
-
provide and control all software library areas during all
phases of the system/software life cycle;
-
provide a document registration and release facility;
-
maintain a register of code and documents prepared;
-
provide a secure storage for all software and documentation
media.
