System Engineering Management Plan
Section 3.14 - Model Text

3.14 Continuous acquisition and life cycle support.

Continuous acquisition and life cycle support (CALS) is an acquirer/supplier strategy to enable more effective generation, exchange, management and the integration of digital technical information for system acquisition, design, manufacture, and support.
A major objective of CALS is to migrate from manual paper-intensive systems operations to an integrated acquisition and support process. This process examines and modifies design and engineering processes to integrate other disciplines, such as producibility, reliability, maintainability, and supportability into each phase of the system design and production process.
The goals for CALS implementation are attainment of increased levels of interfaced, or integrated functional capabilities, and specification of requirements for authorized acquirer access to technical data bases, or for delivery of technical data to the acquirer in digital form.
Configuration item documentation shall be provided in either hard copy data transfer, transfer of processable data files, interactive access to data through integrated technical information services, or a combination of both, as specified by a contract or order.

3.14.1 Data protection and integrity, data rights, and related issues.

3.14.1.1 Industry.

3.14.1.1 Acquirer.
