System Engineering Management Plan
Section 4.8 - Model Text

4.8 Production Engineering analysis.

Production engineering analysis shall be an integral part of the system engineering process. It includes producibility analyses, production engineering inputs to system effectiveness, trade-off studies, and life cycle cost analyses and the consideration of the materials, tools, test equipment, ATE, facilities, personnel, and procedures which support manufacturing in RDT&E (Research, Development, Test and Evaluation) and production.
Product specifications for HWCIs and CSCIs shall define the requirements relating to the characteristics, inspection and tests of a preproduction or production item, replaceable unit, module or component. The Product Acceptance Test Specification(s) for major items (equipments and System/segments) shall be prepared using ATLAS (Abbreviated Test Language or All Systems) Test Specification Language and shall specify the functional tests (black box) required for Equipments and Systems acceptability to the customer.
Critical or special producibility requirements shall be identified as early as possible and shall be an input to the program risk analysis.
Where critical or special production engineering requirements provide a constraint on the design, these requirements shall be included in the applicable specifications. Long lead time items, material limitations, transitions from development to production, special processes, and manufacturing constraints shall also be considered and documented during the system engineering process.
High-risk manufacturing areas shall be identified and necessary steps taken to reduce them as early as possible.
A Manufacturing Management Plan may be established to provide an organized planned method for the putting into production and identifying any special needs.
