RESEARCH ARCHIVE

The museum has built up a paper archive which gives much information about local topics.  This archive is held in some 400 files, which are available to researchers and to members of the public interested in seeking information about a subject of interest to them.  The files can be studied at the museum and copies of pages may be made.  A list of current subjects is shown below.

Before visiting the museum to carry out research, it is best to telephone the Curator, on (01843) 231213, to make sure that the museum will be open when you wish to visit and that the file you would like to view will be available.

Bound copies of local newspapers from 1890 to 1970 are also available, as are a number of local maps ranging from 1821 to 1950.  The museum also has a large collection of Sunbeam photographs of local places, taken in the 1950s and 60s.

By clicking on a letter below, you can link straight to the topics beginning with that letter (for example, "P" for Paddle Steamers).
