WRITER • PHOTOGRAPHER • BROADCASTER

MyportrtaitMark Sparrow is a Bath-based journalist, photographer, broadcaster, arch Eurosceptic and libertarian. During the past 25 years he’s worked on publications as diverse as Cranes Today, MacFormat, Guitarist, Diesel Car and even Metal Hammer magazine. His broadcasts have been heard on radio stations from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands... and even the BBC World Service.

Mark currently contributes to a number of magazines and newspapers including Digital Camera, MacFormat, MacUser and The Daily Telegraph. He also edited Digital Camera Shopper, the UK’s best camera buying guide.

Originally trained as a photographer, Mark slithered into journalism by way of public relations. A brief stint in Germany working in the publicity department of an enormous steel conglomorate served to sharpen his sense of irony as he struggled to find exciting words to describe bucket-wheel excavators and hot strip mills.

His influences include writers like Keith Waterhouse, the late Miles Kington and Bill Bryson. When he’s not working, Mark enjoys competition bog snorkelling as well as breeding and showing pedigree kangaroos. Actually, that’s not really true... his real passions are politics, backgammon, early music and red wine... but they don’t sound quite as exciting, do they?
