A Meteor Burst Communications network provides long-range communications, up to 1,000 miles in one hop, by reflecting bursts of compressed data off the ionised trails left by micrometeors as they enter the earth’s atmosphere. At the shorter ranges, 50 to 100 miles, communications is by extended line-of-sight using ground wave. These two modes of operation are seamless and automatic. Communications between stations consists of bursts of compressed data transmitted at high data rates.
