Initially
involved in a consultative feasibility study (through
association with EDAW Planning Consultants) MCM completed
a full service for this community facility in Newcastle,
evolving a brief, preparing proposals and certifying the
completed development. The scheme includes a local health
trust, community - learning and sports facilities (indoor
and outdoor) and provides a prominent focal centre for
the local community.
The building is modern and functional in style with an
emphasis on clear circulation allowing multi-functional
flexibility. The principal feature is the glazed café
rotunda, addressing the street and providing a large airy
space inside the building. The scale is in keeping with
the terraced character of the local area, as are the agreed
materials including local brickwork, slate roofs and landscaping.
