Aesus:- From the ancient Celts/Gauls - The Respected One

"Impact and dynamics beyond expectations "

The Aesus is our smallest loudspeaker and represents over 2 years of research and development. Initially designed with the idea of supporting the growing number of Home Theatre (HT) installations out there it nevertheless developed into one exceptional musical talent.

Sounding very much like it's bigger brothers but with the emphasis on dynamics to suit the movie watcher the Aesus still manages to punch above its weight on the movie front.

Like their bigger siblings vocals and acoustic instruments are this models forte, with both being presented in the most natural manner. The bass is somewhat more forward than the Artios and this may appeal to some of our listeners, it certainly helps in making movies sound that bit more realistic rather than leaving everything up to the subwoofer.

Some history

The Aesus was originally conceived as a dedicated HT only speaker however it's musical ability was not lost on our panel of evaluators, so we proudly claim it as a music producer as well as an excellent HT speaker. The use of the same family of drive units as found in the Artio, Mellt and Mabon means that tonality is retained even in this small stand mount speaker. This means that their is a natural progression available for HT user. They can safely add a pair of Artios or Mellts as their front channel replacements and move the Aesus to the rear. Then as funds allow move the Artios to the rear and add Mabons or Mellts as the front channels. This means that you can grow your system as and when you want without compromising the integrity of the entire system.

To match the Aesus we have developed the Aesus-C centre channel. Based upon twin bass units similar to those in the Aesus and the same tweeter it is well suited to all supporting anything from a four or more Aesus speaker set-up right through to an all Mabon loudspeaker HT system

Technical Specification

Aesus: a 2 way bass reflex featuring a 5" mid/bass unit designed using a laminate of different polypropylene films and adhesives to provide a five-layer sandwich cone which improves accuracy and consistency of sound reproduction over the entire frequency range. The tweeter utilises an optimally shaped diaphragm that gives well-controlled behaviour through the entire high frequency band. This diaphragm is produced a proprietary material. The process pre-coats the fabric 4 times with a damping/sealing material, resulting in excellent acoustic performance. Designed as left and right pairs for improved imaging. Maple, Cherry, Oak, Walnut Others available on request .

Technical Specification The crossover is the heart of any loudspeaker system, while it would not be true to say that a crossover could make a bad driver sound good, it would be equally true to say that a wrongly designed crossover could make the best drivers available today sound terrible.

We at Mowgan spend the majority of our time on the crossover design this not only has an impact on sound quality but also how it behaves on the supporting amplifier. Avoidance of huge phase swings and impedance swings helps dynamics and timing across the frequency range, while the crossover components themselves can affect sibilance and dynamic behaviour under high volume use.

A little understood factor is the Cabinet design. We use the latest in CAD software to do frequency distribution across the cabinet bracing sections, we then confirm this by using accelerometer measurements to ensure the minimum of additional sound entering the room.
