Artio:- From the ancient Celts - The bear.

"Agility and poise delivered on a wave of musical emotion"

The Artio is our first stand mount loudspeaker and represents over 2 years of research and development. Its proportions are pleasing to the eye and its traditional cabinet shape makes it easy to integrate into most domestic environments.

Designed to offer scale and clarity it competes with all other stand mounts available today. Its warm and inviting sound has been praised by all who have heard this superb individual. The integration of the drive units and easy amplifier load makes it a joy to listen to. Both of these achievements are due solely to the specially sourced mid-bass unit and advanced crossover design which took almost 12 months to perfect.

Vocals and acoustic instruments are this models forte, with both being presented in the most natural manner. However it is fair to say that the little Artio gives little away in other musical terms, being capable of delivering the power and bass extension to give body and soul to all types of music.

Some history

The Artio was our first stand mount loudspeaker and as such has a special place in our hearts at Mowgan. First unveiled at the Scottish High End show in 2006 they stole the hearts of many of the public when they heard them. The same reaction was achieved in 2007 when we let them loose on the public at the Northern Sound and Vision Show in Manchester.

Designed with the smaller room in mind with near to wall positioning the Artios are user friendly and especially comfortable in the smaller listening room, and dare I say it the ladies. They share a lot in common with their bigger brothers the Mellts, indeed the Artio was the inspiration for the Mellts and all of the character of the Artios are present in these formidable floor standers.

The Artios use a rather large drive unit for the average UK stand mount loudspeaker however this does not mean they are for people who lives only for bass, in fact the opposite has been said by a few of their admirers. The Artio is designed to excel in the mid and upper frequency regions, where its smooth response and warm tones with high detail retrieval makes them lots of friends. Voice and acoustic instruments are the mainstay of this design, bass is there but not in the "boom - boom" variety often heard in stand mounts which are designed to be impressive but not accurate.

Technical Specification

Artio: 2 way bass reflex featuring a 7" mid/bass unit designed using a laminate of different polypropylene films and adhesives to provide a five-layer sandwich cone which improves accuracy and consistency of sound reproduction over the entire frequency range. The tweeter utilises an optimally shaped diaphragm that gives well-controlled behaviour through the entire high frequency band. This diaphragm is produced a proprietary material. The process pre-coats the fabric 4 times with a damping/sealing material, resulting in excellent acoustic performance. Designed as left and right pairs for improved imaging. 6 Ohms Maple, Cherry, Oak, Walnut Others available on request .

Technical Specification The crossover is the heart of any loudspeaker system, while it would not be true to say that a crossover could make a bad driver sound good, it would be equally true to say that a wrongly designed crossover could make the best drivers available today sound terrible.

We at Mowgan spend the majority of our time on the crossover design this not only has an impact on sound quality but also how it behaves on the supporting amplifier. Avoidance of huge phase swings and impedance swings helps dynamics and timing across the frequency range, while the crossover components themselves can affect sibilance and dynamic behaviour under high volume use.

A little understood factor is the Cabinet design. We use the latest in CAD software to do frequency distribution across the cabinet bracing sections, we then confirm this by using accelerometer measurements to ensure the minimum of additional sound entering the room.
