Landscape Enhancement Grants Available

If you have a conservation project in mind that could help enhance the landscape within the boundaries of the Kent Downs AONB then read on. Qualifying projects in the past have included cobnut plat restorations, chalk down-land creation, and hedge planting. There are some terms and conditions for your project to qualify however:

  • Work must be carried out within the borough of Tonbridge & Malling.

  • Work must be either within or very close to the boundaries of the AONB

  • Grants of up to £1500 are available for capital works only - i.e. excluding labour charges.

Contact Mark Pritchard on 01622 683695 to find out more.

Pond Grants Available

  • If you are thinking of creating or restoring a wildlife pond, we might be able to help. Small grants are available for school and community schemes for anything from digging a new pond, to replanting with native flora. Contact ian.johnstone@medwayvalley.org for more details.

Cobnut Plat Survey

Following our survey last year MVCP are always looking for good examples of remaining cobnut plats. So if you own a Cobnut Plat  or know of where an abandoned one is, please download a survey form and post it back to us. Please also see the Kentish Cobnuts Association website for more details about this iconic feature of the Kent landscape.

Alternatively if you are managing your plat already, and are looking for a market for the coppiced wood contact John Waller, Underwoodsman 01892 660165

Site Management Plans

MVCP can also carry out wildlife surveys and write site management plans. Whether this is for an existing designated site such as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest, at Yalding Fen below.....

or a new site, then we have the expertise to help.
