Access & Recreation

Home

MVCP want to help people get the best out of enjoying their countryside. This can be through improving access to existing public rights of way, with projects such as the Medway Valley Walk, or by collaboration with other local conservation groups.

Landscape & Biodiversity Enhancement Grants

In collaboration with the Kent Downs AONB and Interreg funding, MVCP are once again able to offer Landscape & Biodiversity Enhancement Grants. These flexible grants support projects within the Kent Downs AONB in Tonbridge & Malling borough and also the Medway Unitary authority areas. Schemes such as pond creation, chalk downland restoration, or traditional orchard establishment, are all available. Funds of up to £1500 per scheme per year are available, to match what is put in by the landowners. Schools, parish councils and individuals can all apply. There are terms and conditions, but for full information download a leaflet or application form.

Land Managers' Pack

This is an exciting new collaboration between Kent's Countryside Management Partnerships and the Kent Downs AONB. The pack is web-based and offers access to expert help and advice on the best ways to manage many different landscape features for people and wildlife. It also helps you to carry out an assessment of their land and its resources.

You can either view the pack online, or download it in relevant sections.

Loose Valley Conservation Area Partnership

MVCP has worked in partnership with Loose Valley Conservation Area Partnership (LVCAP) to produce a vision for the Loose Valley. We have looked to find ways to enhance and sustain the biodiversity value of the whole Loose Valley Conservation Area and its margins. It is intended to provide a framework which interested stakeholders can develop further, share, and deliver through a variety of concerted actions. To see the full document go to the LVCAP website.

Valley of Visions

The Valley of Visions Landscape Partnership Scheme is an exciting and complex programme that aims to make a real difference in the Medway Gap. The £2.5 million scheme, funded primarily by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is investing in landscape, access, wildlife and heritage whilst providing opportunities for people to explore, enjoy and celebrate the local area. Riverside Communities Project

The Riverside Communities Project has achieved a lot in the last year, there has been a whole range of events and activities such as story telling, walks, photography workshops, art sessions and sculpture making – all linked to the river.  Volunteers have been collecting information about the history of the river, and we have developed recommended walk leaflets and spotter guides for children. Medway Valley Walk

This major on-going project seeks to improve access for all sections of the public along this existing footpath. Over the next couple of years we will be improving the route all the way from Tonbridge to Maidstone. This will enable more people to enjoy the route, for example by installing kissing gates in place of stiles where feasible.
