Supporting the community and emergency services in estuary safety, urban flood rescue, environmental conservation and at local events.
We are a newly formed Unit who are completely community funded and who train our members to RYA level 2 powerboat standard and above.
The Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS) was established as a registered charity in 1994 from the decommissioning of the Royal Naval Auxiliary Service (RNXS).
'CHARLIE BRAVO' UNIT BASED AT CHRISTCHURCH HARBOUR
We shall co train with the fire service and other agencies to provide additional maritime skills to support emergency efforts in our region. We shall also provide a river presence, initially at Christchurch and later to include other estuaries eastward. Our objective is to also offer routine support and assistance to the maritime community in general. This will include simple towing, radio communication and security observations and we will also offer boat support at local events such as Bournemouth Air Festival, River Carnivals and other community driven leisure activities, including the 2012 Olympics.
We also have received a request to assist with efforts to monitor the establishment of otters in Christchurch Harbour and the opportunity to offer first aid for marine wildlife.
OPEN TO EVERYONE FROM AGED 18 TO 80
