The Quaich
Scotlands Cup of Welcome & Friendship

The quaich was originally used in the Highlands of Scotland and gets its name from the Gaelic 'Cuach' meaning cup. Legend has it that the quaich has two handles (or lugs) so that when you offered a drink to your visitor it proved you were un-armed and not a danger to them. The quaich was used as a traditional cup of welcome and also to toast

best wishes to a visitor when they were departing.

The quaich was originally formed from native staved wood, later silver or pewter were used. A tradition that continues to this day.

The quaich has truly become Scotland's cup of friendship and welcome.

Pewter Quaichs are available with Celtic style handles (lugs) from approx 1" diameter to 8" diameters. Some quaichs are also available with a thistle badge inside the bowl.

Some sizes of quaich are available in silver plate and hallmarked
sterling silver.
