New Student was launched as an independent student accommodation newspaper in Newcastle in 1999. In 2001 Sheffield and Liverpool papers were launched and in 2002 we added Leeds and Manchester.

Today the papers are published in five cities in the North of England targeting a quarter of a million students across 14 universities.

In 2001 classified sections were added so that both large and small advertisers can benefit from the paper.

Published to coincide with the start of the student house hunting season, each edition is unique to the city it is published in; so that the advertising and editorial relates to just that city and the distribution times vary according to when students start to think about and look for next years housing.
