The Village
- No. 61 is situated
on Tynemouth Front Street. (map)
- Here you'll find an interesting
mix of antique shops, fashion boutiques, eating places and
superb village pubs full of friendly locals putting the
world to rights over a pint of locally produced beer.
- Tynemouth is steeped in
history. There is no better place to discover that for
yourself than by visiting the Priory and Castle which has stood guard against the Viking Longships,
Scottish Raiders and the Spanish Armada
since the 11th century. From these well
preserved ruins there are dramatic views over the award
winning beaches and the River Tyne. You are sure to
see some fishing boats chased by hungry seagulls
or maybe even one of the cruise ferries which travel to
and from Norway, Holland and Sweden setting sail from the
port just 2 miles away.
- There are markets in the Victorian
railway station in Tynemouth on a Saturday or Sunday where
you could find priceless antiques, hear local music or even
have a meal in the Italian Bistro.
