The Curriculum

 

Easington Playgroup's curriculum is based upon the Foundation Stage Curriculum for 3-5 year olds compiled by the Department for Education and Employment which is divided into six key areas of learning:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development - To develop confidence and independence. To learn to concentrate and to learn to share with, and respect others. To develop ways to understand and deal with emotions.

Communication, Language and Literacy - To extend vocabulary and fluency and to develop communication skills through talking, listening, reading and writing.

Mathematical Development - To develop knowledge in the concepts of numbers, measures, shapes, sizes, time, etc. To begin to use language such as bigger, more, etc. and to try problem solving as a foundation for early mathematics.

Physical Development - To develop skills and improve control and coordination in both large body actions and also fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. To enhance confidence and enjoyment of their own abilities.

Creative Development - To develop communication, imagination, self expression through craft, role play, stories, singing, dancing, and all the arts.

We rotate our equipment to ensure your child has the widest variety possible. Our plans for the term, and the theme of the week are clearly displayed and any suggestions or observations are always most welcome.

At every session we aim to have:

  • Large play equipment and physical activities
  • Role play corner and dressing up trolley
  • Construction toys and smaller scale role play toys
  • Playdough, sand tray with varied contents
  • Opportunities for free art and mark making: paint, chalk, drawing craft etc.
  • Books and interest table - a quiet corner
  • Puzzles, small games, science/number table
