time.
The children do not often play games. Muslim women do not seem to have much idea about 'play'. The young Muslim house mothers are very good at domestic chores, but not good at entertaining or showing much affection to the children. On non-school days I have seen children squashed on the floor watching highly unsuitable TV programs for hours at a time, with no physical activity whatsoever. I have always taken art and craft materials to make butterflies and doves of peace. We have painted paper plates and doilies, and made cards. The girls love this though I suspect that when I leave the spare materials and felt-tip pens get lost in a cupboard.
This month Reem, the 22 year old house mother, whose tiny bedroom I share, is going to Bethlehem on a 'play course'. I hope she will come back inspired.
On this visit I started a daily dancing session. For about half an hour each evening the girls had the opportunity (in turns, because of the size of the room), to express themselves in movement ot Arabic movement. At first they were shy - this was
new - but it was interesting to watch them relax as they danced unselfconsciously. The Bedouin girls had beautiful hand and body movements - it must be in the genes!
The major highlight of my visit I missed by a week, though I spent a lot of time planning and preparing for it with Samar. But more of the
Bread and Peace day next time.

Leaders of Worship and Preachers Trust (LWPT)

LPMA (Local Preachers Mutual Aid) and the Local Preachers Office are coming together to form the Leaders of Worship and Preachers Trust to provide one place where all those involved in the leading of worhsip can find practical and emotional support, fellowship, education, care and love.
Every one of our churches will be invited to support this new venture as they have LPMA and individuals who make donations will become Friends of LWPT.
LWPT will raise funds to

  • to make ends meet at home
  • to buy materials for study
  • to assist in the obtaining of state benefits
  • to enable people to continue to live in our Westerley homes
