What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a method of adjusting the bones of the body, to
maintain correct function and alignment. This optimal function
and alignment is vital to ensure that the body’s nerve supply
works efficiently. The subtle adjustments carried out by a
chiropractor can help to relieve pain and discomfort, increase
mobility and offer an overall sense of well-being.
The spinal column consists of 24 vertebrae, the sacrum and the
coccyx and offers protection for the spinal cord, where vital
information is transferred throughout the body. Any fixations
may impinge on a nerve, or cause dis-ease in the area thus
causing pain or limited movement.
The Chiropractor, through years of training can palpate or
’detect’ these fixations. They will then carry out the relevant
adjustments to correct the fixation and help restore optimal
function
McTimoney Chiropractic
is a relatively gentle treatment
which encompasses the whole body. This technique uses low
force, high speed adjustments carried out by the hand only.
The key to the success of the adjustments is the speed, accuracy
and dexterity with which they are performed.
What can Chiropractic help?
Due to the gentle nature of the method people of all ages can
be treated including the elderly, babies and pregnant women.
The following conditions, and many more often benefit from the
treatment:-
Back neck and shoulder pain
Muscular aches and pains
Sciatica
Sports injuries
Migraine and other forms of headaches
What occurs
in the first consultation?
A full case history will be
taken, followed by specific testing to establish a correct
diagnosis.
A full body treatment will then
be carried out using light, low force adjustments to correct any
fixations.

How many treatments
will I need?
This will depend on your
age, condition and the length of time you have had the problem.
For most patients they will
require two to ten sessions, at weekly intervals. Further
sessions will continue being spaced further apart, until the
patient has regained full health.
Prevention is
better than cure—once the patient has returned to full health,
it is recommended to have a maintenance treatment every six
months.
