King Henry's Road
for Paul Middlemiss Primrose Hill, London £70k Contract Sum completed Aug '03
This room is very nearly not a room. An architecture of
Invisibility. To be inside yet feel outside. Glass technology
is pushed
to a new level, with the simple walls acting as cantilevers
to support the roof. Columns or fins are done away with,
leaving
the wall plane absolutely clear. The roof is a single sheet
of glass, supported by the thinnest of glass beams. The
dimensions
of the form are determined by the largest glass-toughening
kiln in the UK.
Shortlisted in the Architects Journal
Small Projects Award 2003.
