The gallery held an invited design competition in early 2003, and Paul Archer Design was selected from amongst other well-known architects. The clients objective was to transform the existing building that the gallery had occupied for many years. The challenge was to do this in a Listed Historic Building, on a tight budget, and within a short time frame.

Highly commended in the Waverley Design Awards 2005.
