CHURCH OF ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL Little Gaddesden NEWS FLASH February 2006 Our new vicar arrives
On 16th February at 8 pm the Licensing of the Reverend Tricia Gibson to the Berkhamsted Team Ministry with special responsibility for the parishes of Little and Great Gaddesden took place in St John the Baptist Church, Great Gaddesden. Following a reception, kindly arranged on this occasion by Great Gaddesden, Tricia was presented by Mr Nicholas Halsey, the Joint Team Patron. The Licensing was conducted by Christopher, Bishop of Hertford and the Installation by Helen, Archdeacon of St Albans. David welcomed Tricia and Peter on behalf of the Parish Council, Rus on behalf of the Parochial Church Council, Barbara Sheard on behalf of the Sunday School and Pram Service attenders and Charis Geoghegan on behalf of Little Gaddesden Church of England Primary School. The Bible was presented by Anthony Archer and the flagon of water carried to and poured into the font by Sally Green. Trafford Allen and Anne Wooster read two of the four pieces forming part of The Dedication of the People of God. The hymns were chosen by Tricia and reflected the role of Christians in the world. In his sermon the Bishop highlighted, often humorously, how vital are the many contributions great and small of each one of us in building up the Body of Christ. He also paid a gracious tribute to the work of the churchwardens in the two parishes, the lay readers and all others, especially Ian Ogilvie and the other Ministers in maintaining the vitality of church life in the parishes during the interregnum. A group of Tricias previous parish, Wigston Magna near Leicester, as well as Peters parents, who travelled down from Nottingham, came to the reception before the service and to the service itself. The majority of her life has been spent in country locations and this will have prepared her well for life here. Peter will have our sympathy as he wrestles with the lawn at the vicarage as well as his own career with Boots. It is sad that their new responsibilities have caused them to sell their keel boat. Then, on Sunday 19th February, Tricia was formally presented to the parish by our Team Rector, the Reverend Dr Michael Bowie, as part of the Parish Communion. Seventy-five parishioners attended the service. The churchwardens, lay readers and members of the PCC came forward to offer assistance and counsel and to hear Tricia pledge to seek their counsel, guidance and advice in the pastoral care of the parish. Tricia and Michael both presided at the communion and our Readers, Trafford Allen and Gill Moore, administered the chalices. It was good that Peter and Carolina were also present in the congregation. We look forward to our work together in the coming years. David Stevens, Rus Westmacott, Churchwardens.
