In 1982 Peter obtained an OND in Technology (Engineering) from the Worthing College of Technology-full time.

Peter then started his railway career initially as a Signalman at Lingfield and East Grinstead in 1982. During that time he then took the opportunity to undertake a day-release course at the Polytechnic of North London (now part of the London Metropolitan University) for the Chartered Institute of Transport Qualifying Examinations.

He continued those studies while progressing on to become a Ticket Clerk at Crawley before working for several years in train planning, initially at Waterloo then at Liverpool Street. He became a Certified Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport (now Institute of Logistics and Transport) and went on to study (on a part time, day release basis) for an MSc in Transport Planning and Management at the Polytechnic of Central London (now Westminster University).

In 1989 Peter left British Rail to enter into transport consultancy in order to widen his experience. He initially worked for Kennedy Henderson at Godalming, then moved to W S Atkins at Epsom and finally to TecnEcon in London.

Then in 1995 Peter started his own transport consultancy, Peter Staveley Consulting. He remains in that position today.

In 1998 Peter became a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer.

Between 2004 and 2007 Peter went on the pilot membership course of the Institute of Railway Operators which is a distance learning course becoming a member of the Institute of Railway Operators in 2007.

Peter’s main skills are in:

  • Railway operations including knowledge of MOIRA and VoyagerPlan and some VISION experience.
  • Bus operations
  • Transport Planning
  • Demand Forecasting including data manipulation and programming in VB, VBA, Excel, Word etc

Peter also has a PCV driver's licence and is a PCV Operator Licence Holder.
