“Copacabana” is a musical written by Barry Manilow, based around the 1978 song of the same name….

In 1994, the film was expanded into a three million dollar full-length musical (after several tryouts and workshops around the world). It premiered on March 21, 1994 at Theatre Royal in Plymouth, England. It would also play Manchester, Edinburgh and then London's West End at the Prince of Wales Theatre from June 23, 1994 to September 9, 1996. It followed with a UK Tour for an additional year.

This adaption originally starred Gary Wilmot as Tony/Stephen and Nicola Dawn as Lola/Samantha.

This was a real challenge for LATA as it was the first show that really focussed on dance, plus, vocally, it is a much harder show than a lot of the other show’s LATA has done…

Also, it’s more modern than a lot of the previous shows, and we felt it was finally time to try something a little different!!

“The triangle of love, jealousy and murder – run foremost throughout the show, but "all's well that ends well" as they say….

The director was Lynda Clarkson, and to get the show to this standard there must be the utmost respect between Lynda and the company.

Musical director was Nick Bennett and choreography by Pat Sumner. There was superb scenery and lighting by Phil Sykes and costumes, not from a costumier but, unbelievably, designed and made by members.

This was a flawless production and my congratulations go to everyone who contributed in whatever small way. A truly outstanding and remarkable evening!”
