The
Moulsecoomb Hearts girls club, have had an exciting couple of months.
They meet each Thursday at St. Georges Hall to take part in weekly
dance classes with Hannah Wheeler, as part of the Positive
Futures Project in East Brighton.
They
have been working towards a number of performance opportunities and
have received very favourable feedback from those who have seen their
shows. On
Thursday 11th July, they performed two dances in the Youth Dance
Platform at The Windmill Theatre, Blatchington Mill.
The
evening highlighted a wide range of dance styles and was performed by
young people from all over Brighton. Some of the groups were from Youth
Dance Companies, whilst others were GCSE/A level students. This was
the first time the Hearts had performed at a proper venue, and although
very nervous they excelled under the pressure. Professional photos
were taken by Ben Johnson and the performance was well attended.
More
recently the Moulsecoomb Hearts performed at the Day of Dance
held at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre as part of the Moulsecoomb Festival,
organised by Jane Woolley, Brighton and Hove Dance Development
Co-ordinator and Hannah Wheeler. Local residents were then
encouraged to take part in a number of taster sessions, including
youth dance, tai chi, basketball and fitness
circuits. To catch the Moulsecoomb Hearts performing again you
will need to come to the Positive Futures Summer Showcase
at the Gardner Arts Centre. The showcase will highlight the
work of young people in East Brighton in dance, sport, art and music.
If
you are a local resident and would be interested in supporting this
event please phone Hannah Wheeler on 01273 202 032. There are
free tickets available but numbers are limited.
