Positive Futures Extravaganza

On Saturday 14th of December, at Brighton Youth Centre, there was a massive extravaganza. This event was to celebrate the successes of young people living Eastern Brighton, including Moulsecoomb, Whitehawk & Saunders Park on Positive Futures, Audio Active and BYC projects.

The afternoon was a huge success with about 150 young people participating in the various events including skateboarding competitions, football and basketball tournaments, dance performances, DJ competitions and much more. With another 75 family, friends and supporters the extravaganza was buzzing with action and noise.

Upstairs in the new indoor skate park youngsters were spinning discs while other were riding quarter pipes, performing jumps and flips and doing their stuff on the kicker! While downstairs the dance groups including the Moulsecoomb Hearts and Whitehawk lads delivered show stopping performances, inter-mixed with rapping, MCing and DJing with the Audio Active music competition. In the cage, throughout the afternoon, there were 3 on 3 basketball tournaments run by Brighton Cougars and 4-a-side football competition with the Albion. During all this Gayle and her team at the youth club organised table tennis, pool and snooker comps.

Fortunately there was an oasis of semi calm in the social area where Care2Share served tasty food and drinks to keep everyone going. After three hours of exciting competitions - prizes awarded to the winners and all those that had made the most effort.

This was a brilliant day and the young people from Eastern Brighton showed how talented they are!! Councillor Betsy Brewer said about the event that "I am full of praise for all of these projects because they really widen the range of experiences on offer to young people."

The Positive Futures Extravaganza @ BYC included skateboarding competitions, football and basketball tournaments, dance performances, DJ competitions.
