Another
successful workshop has just finished. Nine three-hour workshops
were ran at Moulsecoomb Primary School during August. The children
got a lot out of the workshops. Some of them have been attending for
the last three years. The workshops are fun and very child orientated.
The children can do what they want and are never forced to do anything
they would prefer not to although we do have strict rules. By doing
this the children are relaxed, happy and mix well with each other.
They also respect staff, volunteers and, more importantly, the rules.
Between
15 and 20 children attended each workshop and were able to do an array
of things such as art, IT, indoor/outdoor sports and karaoke.
The children made a selection of things in the art room including 3D
scenes, sewing, decorating felt animals, pirate hats, marbling, painting
and model making. Some of the children even made balsa wood airplanes,
which they then took into the hall to find the best flier.
In
the IT room the children printed out pictures they found on the internet
and then transferred them onto tee shirts. Moreover they were
able to access a wide selection of games. With the weather being so
hot in the first two weeks of August the children did not get out onto
the field but in the last week when it cooled slightly they were able
to play volleyball.
A
group called South East Dance came in the first two weeks to
teach the children. Alex came in during the third week to teach
the children jewellery making, this proved to be very popular
and they made some lovely pieces. Finally we finished off the workshops
with an entertainer and held a small tea out on the field. The workshops
larger funders are eb4U, Scarman Trust and the Co-op but also a proportion
of equipment was donated by a number of local and national companies.
Alison coordinates the group, so if you would like more information
