On
Monday 8th of September members of the Moulsecoomb Hearts took
part in the second annual Positive Futures Summer Showcase at
the Gardner Arts Centre. The event is organised by Hannah Wheeler,
an East Brighton Dance Worker in association with South East Dance.
The girls performed two dances, one of which they had learned as
part of their dance summer school during the school holidays.
The
showcase gives young people from across East Brighton a chance to
show off their talents to an audience of friends, family, youth workers
and funders. This year young people from Brighton Youth Centre,
the 67 Centre, CoMArt, Dance Fever and Saunders
Park took part alongside the 'Hearts. There were also skate demonstrations
from the BYC Skaters and beat-boxing from Audio Active.
All
the girls were much more confident this year and enjoyed performing
to such a packed audience. They are now looking forward to
helping launch a new image for the Girls' Club, which will
be meeting in future on a Tuesday night instead of a Thursday. Funding
from eb4u has enabled the club to advertise for new youth workers
to replace Lisa Williams who left in December last year. The
group are ready to revamp the club and possibly even give it a new
name... so watch this space!
