Hillview
Family Centre in Moulsecoomb recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
All who had been involved over the years with Hillview were invited
to a grand get-together for the day. It turned out to be a fantastic
event: salsa dancing, disco dancing, coconut shy, puppeteers, a bouncy
castle, mountains of tasty fruit were all there to be enjoyed by about
350 parents and children. The sun shone wonderfully! Many thanks
to eb4U for their generous grant.
And
what exactly happens at a Family Centre? We serve families in the Moulsecoomb
area a wide range of activities and groups, which are on offer at any
one time such as a drop-in community morning where people can
get together for support at the beginning and end of the week, parenting
and health support groups, an art group, a cookery
group, an Asian women's support group, an after-school club
for 35 five to seven year-olds, a large summer playscheme for
up to 80 children a day, various outings and expeditions over
the year, also specific counselling and other support for individuals
and families.
Hillview
offers a safe, welcoming and relaxed environment that hopefully
not only provides a place where difficulties and worries can be shared,
but also helps parents build on their strengths in bringing up their
children in a positive and enjoyable way, whilst at the same time developing
good friendships.
If
you think you would be interested in anything on offer, or know of anyone
else who would be, please get in touch, you can reach Mike Lloyd
on 295 600.
