Daily Living Centre

Do you need help or advice on how to obtain equipment? The Daily Living Centre (DLC) might be able to help you. We are a free impartial information and advice service, available without a referral, for disabled people, older people, carers and professionals. We provide information on what daily living equipment is currently available, where you can obtain this from (for example through Health and Social Services, local retailers, mail order suppliers, on loan or hire) and how you go about obtaining it.

We have an information service, an in-house Occupational Therapist and an equipment display for visitors to see and try out including mobility aids, communication aids, kitchen equipment, personal care products, beds, chairs and more. Why not get in touch with them as they have helped me no end and are very helpful? We are open Monday - Friday from 10am until 4pm, run a "drop in day" every Wednesday and offer appointments with our in-house Occupational Therapist every Tuesday and Thursday. We are based in Unit 1, Hove Business Centre (off Font Hill Road), Hove. Our telephone number is 01273 731 208, fax 01273 726 820, text phone 01273 725 421 or email us on BHDLC@bhdlc.fsnet.co.uk. We are friendly to talk to so come and give us a try.

Dolphins Disabled Swimming Club

The Dolphins Disabled Swimming Club was formed in 1987 when the NHS stopped funding hydrotherapy due to cash constraints. This affected people recovering from accident or surgery, strokes, arthritis and other joint problems, and people with physical handicaps.

The club operates as follows:
1) Open to any adult (18+) who would benefit from hydrotherapy.
2) A letter from your G.P. or Specialist is required stating the hydrotherapy exercises and swimming are suitable for your condition.
3) Each session comprises group exercises followed by swimming.
4) Sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9.30 to 10.30 at the King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove.
5) A helper is available each session and a qualified physiotherapist on both days now.
6) The cost is £2 per session plus an annual membership fee of £10.

If you are interested please phone Irene on 307647 for more information or turn up on the day. Enjoy and get fitter.
