It's
difficult to find the right words to adequately describe the wonderful
Christmas event that was organised by the young people of the Whitehawk
Crew Club on the 21st of December 2002. These young folk with
the great leadership and encouragement of Lorraine Town and Darren
Snow, the club's leaders organised and put on this very memorable
occasion. This all required a great deal of commitment and hard
work, which demonstrated very well what is really possible in our
community of Whitehawk and Manor Farm.
The
party which was arranged around a 'Chas and Dave' theme with the
entertainment being provided and led by the very lively duet 'Little
and Loud'. A continual medley of old war time songs kept us old'ns
entertained and provided the opportunity to show the world that
we can still sing along with the best of them. The Lambeth Walk,
Any Old Iron, Bless'em All, We'll Meet Again, Land of Hope and Glory
and many, many more were sung with gusto, an enthusiasm rarely seen
today.
With
us elderly guests wearing Union Jack bowler hats, waving Union Jack
flags and rattling tambourines while singing our heads off, we were
certainly having a great time. The young hosts who were dressed
as barrow boys and girls, were waiting on us, treating us in a very
special way, it was all so very good. These young people were marvellous,
even joining in with the Hokie-Kokie and the Lambeth Walk, it was
great fun.
There
was plenty of good food, tea and coffee as well as soft drinks, plenty
of jokes from 'Little and Loud' and there was a draw in which everyone
got a prize to take home. Great credit given to the hard work and commitment
of Lorraine, Darren and the young members of the Crew
Club and I know that all of the senior citizens who were at this wonderful
event, want to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone concerned.
We've certainly got some great young people in Whitehawk and Manor Farm,
haven't we?
