Sports Co-ordinator for East Brighton

I am working in the Health4All team as the Sports Co-ordinator for East Brighton, covering Veronica Titley's maternity leave, who is due to return later on this year.

I am currently supporting two community groups, the Moulsecoomb Women's Group, meeting every Monday from 10.30am - 12pm at Moulsecoomb Primary School (creche available). New members are very welcome, it's a fun and mixed ability group who enjoy a variety of games, racket and team sports. Contact Sally or myself on 294 930 for further information.

There is a 50+ group who meet every Tuesday between 1pm and 2pm at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre. Activities vary every week and include indoor and outdoor ball or racket sports, golf, bowls, petanque and lots more. They are not a group that like to sit around, so if you want to become more active, go along.

The Scout hut in Hodshrove Lane is under development and when the work is completed it will host Boxing and Kickboxing clubs. Already the hut has had some repair work done, plus had a clean up by the team, who are itching to set-up these new clubs. Sessions will include boxing, women and children's kickboxing and circuit sessions, plus women only sessions. The clubs will be run by professionals with extensive experience and supported by the police. The grand Opening Day is May 21st.

I am also the Secretary for the East Brighton Sports Network. We help local groups apply for funding, help with resources and assist with further training requirements such as first aid and child protection policies. We are looking for local residents to join the committee to have a say on sports and activities in the East Brighton area. If you would like to join the committee contact me to find out when our next meeting is.

The Active for Life website offers free registration for community groups. It also allows you to search for an activity in your local area. Log on today at www.activeforlife.org.uk We aim to get more people, more active, more often. Long-term plans for the site include assistance and referrals to funding grants, training and resources.

If you have something to say about sports and activities in the East Brighton area, please contact me: Lisette Day, East Brighton Sports Co-ordinator at eb4U, Winterbourne Centre, Hodshrove Lane, Brighton, BN2 4SE; telephone 01273 294 535 or email Lisette.Day@eb4u.org.uk.
