Very
Rewarding
Dale
Baxter is the winner
of the Whitehawk Homework Club Story Writing Competition.
Dale, 13, who attends the homework club at the Whitehawk
Library twice a week was happy to receive first prize.
His story was chosen for its imaginative content and
for the obvious amount of work and effort put into his piece The
Enchanted Woods, a
story of a young boy's adventure in a fantasy land.
Creative
writing is not the only talent of this CoMART student. Phoenix found
out he is also getting a name as a fab DJ. For the past year Dale
has been spinning the decks for the Whitehawk and Manor Farm
Festival discos held at the Whitehawk Youth Centre and it doesn’t stop
there!! The resident DJ has branched out to doing private children’s
disco parties in the area and later on this year he will be teaching
his skills at St. Marks primary school.
We
asked him if he wanted to be a DJ when he has older but he insisted,
"I want to work with animals and be a vet." He
belongs to the East Brighton
Community Farm project and hopes to work
with the animals when the farm is up and running in Sheepcote
Valley.
He should be happy with his prize of a wildlife book and Phoenix wishes
him all the best for the future. The Homework clubs at Whitehawk and
Moulsecoomb libraries run from 3.30pm - 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays
and 11am - 12.30pm on Saturdays.

Young
People Making a Play for It
Young people
from East Brighton are the Champions of their Community and now
they are leading by example. Over 150 young people between
15 and 24 years old had been invited to attend the Bridge to
Employment Award Ceremony and Balloon Release on January 31st, at the Brighton
Racecourse to receive their Awards for Achievements gained in 2003.
If
you are a young person age 15 - 24 years and you want to make
a play for your independence, find out what training and employment
opportunities are out there for you at the Connect Club, 1 - 4pm, every
Thursday at Whitehawk Youth Centre and 67
Centre, Moulsecoomb.
Bridge
to Employment is always looking for ways to work with employers who
feel they have real opportunities and even better if they can provide
some training. If you are an Employer, you can play your part by
helping young people gain employment. If you have an employment opportunity,
or feel there are ways to assist in the future, please call Paula
Beesty,
Project Co-ordinator on 294 244. Bridge
to Employment would like to thank Brighton Racecourse for their support
in providing the venue and Tesco and Marks & Spencer
for donating vouchers for catering at the Award Ceremony.
