Transport on Water - Barge Driving Race

Saturday 21st July 2012.

Watch around 11 teams of Watermen, Lightermen and Apprentices row 30 tonne barges over a 7 mile course from Greenwich to Westminster.
Considerable skill is needed to pilot unpowered barges rowed by oars or sweeps on the tidal Thames.

The event commemorates the skills of Lightermen who moved freight in this way in the 1940/50's.

Sail Through History

Sunday 7th August 2011.

View the 2nd World War Mansell forts. The home of the Pirate Radio Station Radio City. View the only operating windfarm in the Thames.
