This may sound like I am telling you how to suck eggs but the most simple things are mostly over looked.

If you have window locks, use them. If you have dead locks use them. leaving a light on when you go out on an evening can give the impression that someone is home. cancell the milk and the papers when you go on holiday, get a friend to turn lights on and off and draw the curtains while you are away.

If you have a chain on your door use it when you answer the door if you are not expecting a visitor. Always ask for I.D. if they are genuine they will have proof, always phone the number on the card or better still phone the number in the phone book, the company will always be happy to help.

These are more common sence than anything else so try them out ( it cost nothing )
