STRUCTURAL WIRING

What is structural wiring?

Structural wiring is the latest technology that is now being incorporated in newly built homes today. This is a process of sending digital information around the home using cat 5 network cables. This can take the form of broadband networking, multi room audio, video information, CCTV information and many more.

A central wiring panel is installed and this is were all the cables are returned to .Cables are run from the CWP and are run to outlets, such as coax, RJ45 outlets and phono sockets.

This method of wiring and cable running has the advantages of quality and requires no joins or splices. Fault finding is easier as it allows each cable to be tested individually.

 Planning

Planning is a important part of structural wiring, this is because all the cables are wired in during the building process. Finding the best way the run the mass of cables to and from the CWP is an important consideration and a challenge for the developer. Developers and installers is to make sure the wiring infrastructure is future ready. This must be dealt with at the design stage.

The absolute minimum that a structural wiring should have is broadband networking and multi room audio. The developer should allow for future technologies to be implemented at a later stage. The main objective of the developer is to ensure that whoever purchased the property did not have to include re-wiring costs on top of the initial outlay.

 Structural wiring and wireless technology.

Most of the new technology is now IP – based devices with data rates of over 1000mb/s. This can greater speed up downloads of movies and video streaming which is now very popular.

Although wireless technology is becoming very popular, structural wiring is considered to be superior because it is more reliable and more secure. You can only guarantee 100% service if it is hardwired at the initial stage.
