Dick Ward joined the Practice in 1970 and is professionally qualified both as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a Chartered Electrical Engineer. His international experience, gained throughout Europe, Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region, includes all the major stages of project implementation, from definition to commissioning. He has acted variously as the owner’s adviser, the lender’s adviser, the owner’s representative, the Engineer under the contract, and as adviser to the contractor

Dick has extensive experience of power generation, industrial electrical systems, process plant and mechanical handling. He has been deeply involved in the procurement, design, manufacture and testing of mechanical and electrical equipment from sources throughout Europe. He has manufacturing, construction site and operational support experience. He is thus able to address many specialised areas of technology, as well as more general matters of engineering practice and industrial safety.

He has provided engineering support for litigation alongside his conventional consulting practice since 1978. A Member of the Academy of Experts, he is trained in the requirements of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and the particular requirements they place upon experts in general, and Single Joint Experts. He is a Member of the Society of Construction Law and an APIL expert.

Dick has given oral evidence on several occasions in court proceedings in the UK and in international arbitration (as the tribunal’s independent expert in ICC arbitration). His court experience has encompassed cases of contractual dispute, professional negligence and disputed intellectual property. He has advised on the drafting of technical claims and provided many reports and formal evidence in a variety of engineering disputes, ranging from complex multi-million dollar international construction disputes to relatively simple matters relating to the supply, design, performance and safety of machinery and installations.
