What do we do?

The Society is for everyone who is passionate about trees in Scotland.

We were founded over 150 years ago in 1854. At that time our woods and forests had suffered from years of exploitation and neglect.  We have continued to advocate the proper care and development of our trees, woodlands and forests.

We have members who are experts on all aspects of forests, woods and trees.

The breadth and depth of experience among our members and the interest in the whole science, practice and culture of trees and forestry matters is unique in Scotland.

Your contribution of knowledge and enthusiasm will be appreciated.

You are welcome to join our society to help in the safeguarding and development of our woodland heritage.

The Society holds about 20 meetings per year both on a Regional and National basis.  These consist of field visits, lectures or discussion meetings.

You are encouraged to attend any of the meetings which are of interest.

Members receive four copies of Scottish Forestry each year.

The journal carries a selection of articles ranging from peer reviewed reports of scientific research to reports from members and Society news.  Details of current publications can be seen on the Journal page.

The articles and reports from Scottish Forestry from 1858 (Volume 1/1) to 1946 (Volume 60/2) are available as a searchable archive on the Journal Archive page.

The searchable archive will be upgraded to 2005 in the near future.
