The Royal Naval Sick Berth Staff Associations have existed in one form or another since the end of the First World War when an Association was formed with branches in the three port divisions, which served the needs of both serving personnel and retired members.
As a result of the popularity of these Associations, a separate one for retired members was formed in 1938. The Association had varied fortunes over the years, but flourished after the Second World War until the numerical strength of the Royal Navy began to decline. At the end of 1981 the Association had ceased to exist.
Three years later in 1984 following celebrations marking the centenary of the formation of the Sick Berth Branch there was resurgence of interest thanks to the efforts of Jack Fitch who was our late President. The title of the Association reflects the changes that have taken place in the naval medical services structure over the years.
Membership is open to both serving and ex-serving members, male or female, of the Royal Naval Medical Branch, and our aim is to foster the spirit of comradeship found in the service, to hold an annual reunion and dinner, and gatherings currently in Portsmouth, Plymouth and London areas. A newsletter ‘DocRN’ is published four times a year.
If so come and join us!
