Quilt Of Friendship
28th May–9th June 2019

Finland 100

Barrington Farm
Norfolk, NR12 0PF, UK

In January 2017, ex-art barn staff member Iina Hunter invited the Barrington Farm artists to take part in the Finland 100 project in celebration of Finland’s 100th anniversary as an independent state. Participants were invited to create a textile square 20×20cm on the theme of ‘Friendship’ to join together people from all walks of life.

Iina developed the project to raise awareness of how making art in different settings can help overcome barriers. She ran workshops for people in day care settings, homes, activity centres for people with learning difficulties, refugee centres, colleges. Artists, children and students from all over Europe including Finland, England, France, and Greece took part.

Nearly 400 squares made by different groups and individuals were collected. These squares were then sewn together by people at Eteva in Finland and resulted in a 10-metre-long wall painting. Finland’s Independence Day was the 6th December 2017. The final work was exhibited in the library in Kerava, Finland from the 4th December until the 29th December.

The quilt has now toured to several countries and we are delighted that it will be on display here at Barrington Farm during our Open Studios event. Entry is free and all welcome!
