What is 'Industrial Mission'?

We live in a world where abbreviations and mnemonics seem to dominate. And so, IM. IM is all about an Incarnational Ministry - it is about being there, and for BANHIM, 'there' is the world of work as represented by all kinds of industry and commerce - the manufacturing industries of Andover, the Financial Service Industries of Basingstoke, the newly developed Basingstoke Town Centre, the FE colleges in both Andover and Basingstoke …. And much else beside.

Industrial Chaplains are never preachers in the workplace, but, rather, people who work at getting alongside all workers, the management and those who manage. Sometimes it is not much more than a friendly face; other times Chaplains find themselves involved in ethical issues, both corporate and individual, concerns about employment and unemployment; discussions about the economic well-being of the communities of North Hampshire and much else beside. The understanding of the work of Industrial Mission that informs the BANHIM Industrial Chaplains is well set out in the following set of Core Values.
