Luperina nickerlii under sea water

The three British subspecies of the Sandhill Rustic moth Luperina nickerlii Freyer all occur in coastal habitat where they can be exposed to submersion by the sea. As a result, it is likely that they can survive for a short time under sea water. The accompanying photos show the results of an experiment to test their survival under water (photos show only leechi, but demuthi and gueneei have the same ability). gueneei in particular has the ability to swim well (see video).
