Winter 2009

What: Christmas Concert - Sing Nowell!
When: 7.30 pm Friday 4th December 2009.
Where: All Saints Church, Lime Walk, Headington

Ralph Vaughan Williams was in love with English folk songs and carols all his life. The First Nowell, a cycle of traditional carols set for solo voices, choir and orchestra, was his final farewell to the songs he had woven into his music for a lifetime. His Dives and Lazarus, played by the Isis Orchestra, is a set of variations on an ancient and haunting tune, with pools of quiet reflection, soaring lines of melody and a guaranteed tingle factor.

Schubert's short Mass in C, upbeat, full of grace and lightness, completes the concert. A festive start to the Christmas season.
