Loch Ahaltair Sheiling
Camp out in this wild and remote sheiling which sleeps up to four and was restored by the the Uig Angling Club in 2003. Shellfish Collecting
At the Suirstavat estuary at low tide, collect cockles, mussels, occasional oyster and small eels . Creeling
Creels at the Scaliscro Pier , can be baited with mackerel and set for green crab off the pier (or for lobster outside the narrows).
Sailing
2 Optimist sailing dinghies are provided for Lodge guests on the Breakfast Loch. Learn to sail An Cuach, a traditional Hebridean Sailing boat ,with Andrew McVean (Tel 01851 672 716)
Surfing
A windsurfer on the Breakfast Loch and a surfboard are provided for use by Lodge guests.
Waterskiing
We can arrange water skiing in Little Loch Roag. Please enquire for further details/rates.
Sandy Beaches
Reef - good for swimming and sailing. Sheltered from south west.
Traigh Teinis - good for safe swimming and shell collecting. Walk to east end of Reef beach then southwards to find this enchanting beach, sheltered from north, east and west.
Mangersta - good for surfing. You can explore a cave at low tide.
Cliff - good for surfing but dangerous undertows. Sheltered from South.
Carnish - very secluded, good for swimming etc. Sheltered from South West and South East.
Uig - enormous and exposed. Park at Ardroil and walk across to the bridge beneath Uig Lodge where you can swim in the river (which is warmed up by the sand on a hot day) and see salmon and seatrout.
Mealista - sheltered from East. You can see Isle of Scarp, St. Kilda and Flannan Isles from here on a good day.
Iron Age House at Bosta Beach (Island of Great Bernera)
Coincide a visit to Bosta beach with opening hours of the iron age house ( 12pm.- 4pm, Tue - Sat ).
We can also arrange a ferry to Little Bernera ( contact estate office for details )
Hill Climbing
Mealishabal (574m, Highest hill on Lewis)
Drive to Islivig and turn left up track and park at sheep fank. c2hrs.
Suianabhal (429m).
Drive to Timsgarry, then past Uig Lodge, turn left after river and park at Loch Suianebhal. c1-2hrs.
