My research interests centre on understanding peace and human flourishing as a holistic and dynamic process, and I'm looking at how to apply this understanding in social transformation. The key concepts I am developing with colleagues include human-centred education, narrative pedagogy, critical narrative, dialogic approach to education, intercultural learning and internationalisation of higher education. As a researcher, I am engaged in numerous research inquiries. In 2013 it was research into dialogue in education for peacebuilding in post-conflict countries; In 2014 I completed a project which invites personal narratives illustrative of those individuals' understanding of what counts as their well-being, and how they would pursue a flourishing life; in 2015, I started a research inquiry into the concepts of peace and peacefulness through a series of dialogue. I have published extensively in the field of education, narrative studies and peace research. My most recent publications include titles such as: "Human-Centred Education: A practical guide" (Routledge 2016); "Why Love Matters: Values in Governance" (Peter Lang, 2015); "Education as humanisation: dialogic pedagogy in post-conflict peacebuilding", Special Issue (as Guest Editor), Journal of Comparative and International Education (Volume 44, Issue 1, 2014); "Redefining Religious Education: Spirituality and Human Flourishing" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014); "Critical Narrative as Pedagogy" (Bloomsbury, 2013) and "Rethinking Secondary Education: A Human-Centred Approach" (Pearson Education, 2012); "Narrative Pedagogy" (Peter Lang, 2011). In addition, I am a regular contributor of Huffington Post blogs. I'm a member of the British Education Research Association and European Society of Research in Education. I'm a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and a member of the Royal Institute, Chatham House. I am a Board member of Ara Pacis Initiative and a Trustee of Lewes New School in the UK.
