| It has been said over and over again that politics and the people of Northern Ireland have faced a number of watersheds in the lifetime of our Province. There are those political analysts who will spend days, weeks and months pouring over the results of the 2009 European Elections. They will no doubt come up with all sorts of twists and turns to explain the outcome of Monday June 7th 2009. The simple fact of the matter is 58% of the voting population could not be bothered turning up at their polling station to cast their vote and unfortunately for the Unionist family the lions share of that 58% came from the Unionist community and is a sad reflection on the state of politics in Northern Ireland. >>> |

Death of a Hero |
Just over two weeks ago a hero was laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery. Corporal Sean Binnie, a member of the Black Watch 3rd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland. His young wife was joined by family, friends and her husband’s regimental colleagues to pay tribute to the service of a young man who lived his life to the full both in his personal life and in his military career. >>> |

| Parades Update |
With a positive start to this years season of parades we are just ten days away from the United Disttrict’s Tour of the North Parade(Friday June 19th) and less than three weeks away from the annual Whiterock Parade (Saturday June 27th). As always there is an air of anticipation about both parades as they are always used as the litmus test for the remainder of the parading season. >>> |

| Improvements for Shankill Homes |
314 Housing Executive homes in the Shankill area are getting major external improvements at a cost of almost £1m. The homes are a mixture of houses, flats and bungalows and were built by the Housing Executive between 1980 and 1991. >>> |

From information received and unfortunately from rumours that developed over the past few days it now appears inevitable that the Albert Hall will close with the loss of jobs in the café, the loss of the charity shops, the loss of the church and the loss of what has been seen as an institution on the Shankill Road. >>> |

William James Pelan was born in 1888 in Belfast and married Francis a girl from Birmingham; both were Presbyterians who attended Newington Presbyterian Church on the Limestone Road in North Belfast and is remembered on the church’s war memorial. >>> |
