Republican revisionism
Did you watch the programme on RTE a few weeks ago – Cork’s Bloody Secret that detailed the execution of a number of Protestants by the IRA during the War of Independence. For me it was a simple factual report of a historical event that took place during the bloody history of Ireland. From a Protestant perspective I didn’t see it as an attempt to undermine the politics of the Republic of Ireland as it now stands. Well it didn’t take long for the republican revisionists to come out of the woodwork and paint their own particular interpretation and hey what do you know the whataboutery came out in full force and went as far back as Henry Platagenet’s invasion of Ireland in 1171. It is unfortunate that modern day republicans seem to have a very one sided opinion about history that only allows for ‘their’ side of the story but it would appear gives them carte blanche to airbrush their dirty deeds out of history.
They seek to lead
Remember all the hoo haa about MP’s expenses and remember I said they would do everything in their power to sweep the issues raised under the carpet. Well I told you so! They just cannot bear to be held to account for their sleazy expenses racket and are now beginning to squeal like stuck pigs as the Kelly Review has been released. There is now a healthy or unhealthy dose of contempt between Parliament and the People depending how you look at things as the likes of Jacqui Smith begrudgingly ‘apologised’ for stroking the tax paying population of £116,000 of their hard earned tax pounds or more recently as Jane Kennedy (ex Education Minister at the NIO) has rather haughtily announced she is standing down on principle about the findings of the Legg Inquiry. Member of Parliament and principle in the same sentence now there is a paradox!
Send him to Afghanistan
There has been much said about the 19 year old student who was so drunk he urinated all over the poppy wreaths on a War Memorial in Sheffield. The mother of this piss artist is outraged and rightly so and such is the extent of the outcry in his home town that he has been suspended from his university placement. Comments have been made that he should be made to sweep the streets of Sheffield with a placard round his neck as a punishment. Already I can hear the left wing, tree hugging, human rights experts rustling their papers as they prepare to jump to his defence. Why not send him out to France for a few months and let him work for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, to tend the graves of the men whose memory he desecrated or better still send him out to Afghanistan and tell some living heroes why he did what he did.
That will do nicely
Speaking about Assembly expenses the ‘Ourselves Alone’ approach by Sinn Fein is alive and well as the trouser almost £400k of public money as they pay Sinn Fein linked companies for the rental of property for their constituency offices. Of course they have done nothing wrong according to the rule book but it would appear their good old socialist principles went straight out the window as they joined the Westminster gravy train driven by Marie Antoinette with her ‘No bread then let the peasants eat cake’ approach.
And finally
X Factor – you either love it or hate it. I don’t have a choice at home as the television control is always conveniently locked away! I have to say I have watched with interest as the twins attempt to wind up all and sundry with their own particular style of ‘entertainment.’ To ensure that I maintain some level of appropriate language the best thing I can say about them is they are the best advert for the reintroduction of sending children up to sweep the chimneys! Only joking all you human rights experts out there.
And finally, finally
It is that time of year when you have guessed it yes be afraid, be very, very afraid if you have not started yet. Only 43 shopping days left! |
