Welcome to the Sherfield English Parish web site.

The primary purpose of the site is to let people in the village know what is happening in the village, with a focus on the Parish Council, events in the Village Hall and activities at the Sports Field. The Parish Plan and forthcoming Village Design Statement are also covered in detail.

NEWS   News items from groups, societies and businesses in & around Sherfield English

GEORGE BIGGS is retiring

Our Rector for the past 14 years, George Biggs, is retiring on 28th February.

We are arranging a farewell Family Service on Sunday 20th February at 11am. This will be followed by an "American Lunch" in the Village Hall. Drinks will be provided, but please bring a plate of finger food to share.

Many of you will wish to show your appreciation by contributing towards a present for George and Jo's new retirement home in Salisbury. Please deliver your contribution to Pam or Elizabeth by Friday 18th. The presentation will be at the Lunch.

More details in the SEDCA Newsletter.

SPEED LIMITS

The Sherfield English (SEDCA) News Letter conducted a poll of its readers to measure support for speed limit changes along the A27.

The overwhelming vote was for a 40 mph limit everywhere, with votes for the status quo (mixed 40 and 50 limits) coming a distant second. There was no significant support for a 30 limit on this road.

Note also that the Parish Council has had a meeting with the Highways Department at HCC concerning a central pedestrian refuge at the Post Office junction, footpaths and potholes.

A note from the Parish Plan Manager

"The Sherfield English Parish Plan has been endorsed by the 'Local Strategic Partnership'. Information about this is available from their web site: www.yourtestvalley.com

The Second Issue of the Parish Plan was published last year, following the external consultation stage. A small number of changes and additions have been made to the Plan, the main things being the addition of an index of local businesses, a reference page for local groups and clubs and a map of all 'Sites of Interest for Nature Conservation' in the parish.

Click on the 'Parish Plan' tab above for details of how to obtain a printed copy, or to download a PDF version.

Current activity is focussed on the development of a VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT and our main Action Plans. See the 'Parish Plan' page for details.

The Parish Plan is a 'live' plan, not something set in stone, so if you read something in it and a thought occurs to you, please take the trouble to pass your thought on - my email and phone number are above.

The Parish Plan page has further information and download links.
