[DJ Set]
Spirit of Gravity at the Marlborough Theatre, Brighton, Tuesday 22nd November 2005
Chaos reigns: due to the last minute cancellation of Ad:art there were a few last minute changes to the bill. Which left us with the festival length bill, but amazingly it all ran on schedule.

MI vs. TG: Warming us up was Minimal Impact playing selections from his extensive Throbbing Gristle collection, in his own inimitable fashion. I'd say Steve won.

Permanent Bag System: The debut of a new Wrong Music turn from Henry and James, this was a hilarious set involving a vacuum cleaner, nylon coats and masks. "I broke all our microphones when we were rehearsing, can I borrow yours?". A mess on many levels, and one of the funniest things I've seen at the Spirit of Gravity. They're taking it on the road in the New Year – watch out!

Same Actor with Ben Greenland: With Roddy on Recorder and Ben on Euphonium you know it's going to be strange and beautiful, and it is in spite of the best efforts of the aliens inside Roddy's laptop. The Euphonium gently washes its melancholy figures underneath gentle layers of fluted tones. And of course there's something about brass that always makes me think of the dales: beautiful.

nwodtleM: This was the first time I've seen nwodtleM play a set without his trusty twin pitch-control tape players. Instead Sean was sat behind his laptop producing pretty much the same melange of breakbeat frenzy and daft pop silliness, cutting up noises, speech and the hits of the 80's to great comedic effect. After he finished his set he confided he hadn't managed to beat his pinball highest score.

Capslock: We played a set of rehearsed songs rather than the advertised pagan chirrups and drones. Kids’ keyboards, melancholy vocals, Tiananmen square on the projector: After two short sad songs, we played a more up-tempo and cheerful piece that had the Spirit of Gravity sparkle motion dancers up on the stage. But I didn't notice, I hope they did a good job. Then as an added bonus and to celebrate the fact my nephew gave me my Casio MT40 back, we had a brief outro of Sleng Teng (aka the "Slow Rock" auto bass). Malevich: The Godfathers of Brighton electronica returned to the stage with a selection of old school beats, rants and "Thus spake Zarathustra". Tony played bass, too. It was a life affirming set, in turns tender, intense rowdy and funny. Hopefully by the time you've read this Tony will have got a segment edited and up on the Sogblog. Ingrid Plum: We were especially pleased to have Ingrid provide some mesmerising visuals for the evening, for everyone apart from Capslock.
