"The Planets Live" at The Albert, Brighton

The "Sound of the Planets" is a piece Minimal Impact has been working on for quite a while, I know. Using soundfiles downloaded from the NASA and European Space Agency web sites he has re-formed them into the type of sound we've come to know and accept, if not love. Minimal Impact himself started the backing tracks of planetary hiss and drones and effects, while adding subtle washes of slide guitar. After about five minutes he was joined by Hot Roddy on radio and computer textures, he was then replaced in turn by Derek from Komuso on an old SH101 synth providing the sound of the empty wind of space, Geoff from kapzloq on Casio 50s style space sounds and clanger noises, and finally Tony Rimbaud on treated bird and animal noises, then for an all too brief 5 minutes at the end of the set, Minimal Impact left the stage for a crafty smoke while the guests joined together over the unrolling backing tracks. A very interesting collaboration inspiring the kind of dreamstate I love that seems peculiar Steve's work.
