What Services Do We Provide?

Information and Advice

We provide up-to-date information and expert advice both to individuals who have newly acquired disabilities after hospitalisation and need help with rehabilitation and also to those who need to maintain their independence in the community.

We can answer your questions about benefits you can claim, adapting your home, specialist equipment, leisure opportunities, employment and setting up 'personal assistant' (carer) support, so you can be more independent. We are happy to help with any query about living with a disability.

Advocacy

We support people with disabilities in self-assessment and in the representation of their legal rights. We provide assistance in promoting our Clients to the appropriate statutory or voluntary organisations to ensure that their holistic needs are both understood and met.

Emotional Support

We offer a listening ear in a confidential environment when life is stressful or difficult. It is also a chance to share the good times!

Independent Living Workshops

Quality training is provided to address the many issues that surround employing your own personal assistants/carer's: -

Recruitment & training of staff, gaining confidence as an employer, employer's legal responsibilities, organising payment/payroll, and developing support plans.

Our workshops are particularly helpful for people who wish to take up 'Direct Payments' from their local authority to enable them to take charge of their own care arrangements.

Personal Assistant Employer Support

In addition to training, we can provide help during the recruitment process, such as advice about advertising, preparing job descriptions and application forms, assisting at interviews, linking you to insurance and payroll supports. You don't have to do this alone!

Person-Centred Planning Service

If you have a physical disability and you live in Kent, you may be entitled to receive a 'Direct Payment' to assist you with support at home or with accessing education and leisure services in the community, provided you meet your Local Authority's criteria.

A 'Person-Centred Plan' could help you to organise your support more effectively and to explore opportunities to get the most from your local community. A plan could also help some individuals to think about employment opportunities as an option.

Our Person-Centred Planning Co-ordinator can help you to develop your person-centred plan and to put it into action.

Drop-in-Group

Held monthly, our 'drop-in' groups are a relaxing way for people to meet in a friendly environment - both to socialise, share experiences and new ideas or get advice from peers with a chance to listen to speakers on different topics.

Funding Sources and Equipment

We are able to provide information regarding sources of funding for obtaining support both at home and for accessing the community, and also specialist aids and equipment. As well as disability state benefits and local authority grants there are now 'Direct Payments' and there will also be an option to have even more control over funding arrangements through an 'Individualised Budget'.
